Official verification of sound level meters

Your cost-effective all-in-one package: calibration, verification and shipping

Comprehensive service from a single source

For selected types of Class 1 sound level meters, SPEKTRA LABS offers comprehensive acoustic and electrical calibration of your measuring instrument in its DAkkS-accredited calibration laboratory. Based on this, the bureau of standards can then issue the calibration mark without the need for further extensive additional measurements.

We perform the pre-verification calibration, arrange the inspection at the verification authority and handle all shipping logistics. As a result, after an optimized turnaround time, you will receive a DAkkS-accredited calibration certificate and a verification seal for your sound level meter. Optionally, we can provide a simple verification certificate for these devices (and their corresponding sound level calibrators).

  • Arranging the inspection at the bureau of standards (German “Eichamt”) and organizing shipping
  • Verification in a DAkkS-accredited laboratory
  • Delivery of results (calibration certificate, verification certificate, individual identification and much more)
  • Calibration services of the highest standard
  • Fast turnaround times of approx. 15 business days (upon prior registration)
  • Shorter turnaround times available upon request

Why is an official verification necessary?

Sound level meters intended for use in official applications are subject to the Measurement and Calibration Act (MessEG) and the Measurement and Calibration Ordinance (MessEV).

Sound level meters must also be calibrated for sound emission measurements in accordance with Annex A.3.2 of the Sixth General Administrative Regulation to the Federal Immission Control Act (BImSchG) (Technical Guidelines on Noise Protection, TA-Lärm).

During calibration, measuring instruments are tested for compliance with calibration regulations, particularly with regard to specific metrological requirements and error limits. It is carried out exclusively by calibration authorities and consists of a metrological test in accordance with §37 MessEV and the affixing of the calibration mark on the measuring instrument in accordance with §38 MessEV.

Calibration according to IEC 61672-3:2013

  • Free-field calibration
    125 Hz…20 kHz (sound pressure level 75 dB…94 dB)
  • Pressure calibration (in electroacoustic coupler)
    31.5 Hz…16 kHz (64 dB…114 dB)
  • Pressure calibration (two-point with pistonphone and calibrator)
    250 Hz (94 dB, 114 dB, or 124 dB) and 1 kHz (94 dB or 114 dB)
  • Low-frequency pressure chamber (factory calibration only)
    0.1 Hz…31.5 Hz (124 dB)

In addition to acoustic calibration, a comprehensive electrical calibration (level linearity, frequency response) can also be performed.
